Summary: Lazard investigates a claim that could cost the company a load.
The damages listed were extensive. Extensive and costly, Lazard noted. Outrageous, in fact. Which was why he had insisted on meeting with the hotel manager face to face and inspecting the premises in person. The instant he stepped off the elevator he knew the situation was bad.
The entire hallway was deserted, rooms left vacant to keep traffic low in the area, lost income to be added to the actual cost of repairs. At the far end, Lazard saw the remains of an ornate door hanging on a hinge. He sighed. This did not look good.
The suite was spectacularly trashed. The stuffing was out of the furniture. There were slash marks on the ceiling. The TV was lodged in the wall. The most drug-addled sex-fueled rock band couldn’t have done worse. Lazard pushed his glasses up on his face. “Are you certain that SOLDIERs were responsible for this?”
“Of course,” the manager said. “Just let me turn off the lights for you there.” He flipped the switch and left them standing in a field of stars. “You don’t even need a blacklight to tell where they’ve been.” Lazard pulled away from the walls and gave the man his check.
